REDEMPTION See also: Atonement; Salvation

救贖

By Christ's purchasing redemption, two things are intended: his satisfaction and his merit; the one pays our debts, and so satisfies; the other procedues our titles, and so merits.  The satisfaction of Christ is to free us from misery; the merit of Christ is to purchase happiness for us.

Jonathan Edwards

As a race we are not even stray sheep, or wandering prodigals merely, we are rebels with weapons in our hands.   Our supreme need from God, therefore, is not the education of our conscience...but our redemption.

P. T. Forsyth

No creature that deserved redemption would need to be redeemed.

C. S. Lewis

The believer is not redeemed by obedience to the law but he is redeemed unto it.

John Murray

Justification and sanctification are two aspects or the two sides of the one coin of divine redemption.

W. Stanford Reid

The only thing that a man can contribute to his own redemption is the sin from which he needs to be redeemed.

William Temple
